SimpleSite is aptly named.  It’s a basic and simple website builder that gets the job done but won’t get you a state of the art website …but also, it’s not trying to. Their target audience are people with no experience in web design or coding. And for those people, SimpleSite is just right- no more, no less.

The free version is perhaps the best thing about this website builder. There are ads (like in any other competitor service), but they don’t take over the website, so you can still effectively display your content. And if you don’t want to upgrade to a paid subscription, it’s ok too.  Your content will never be lost and you can keep your free website forever.

At $13.95/month (or $10/month with the annual plan), the Pro option is ad free and includes unlimited pages, images and video time. You also get more design options, your own domain name, and 5 custom email addresses.

Then there’s the eCommerce package, for $28.95/month (or $25/month with the annual plan), which gives you all of the above plus unlimited online store listings.

One of SimpleSite’s most notable free features is that you can sell up to five items in its online store. Website builders that offer eCommerce for free are rare, so this is a significant selling point. Within the eCommerce option, there are a decent number of options, a few layouts to choose from and integration with Paypal. Other features include Google Maps integration, photo albums, guest books and price lists.

SimpleSite is perfect for people who want to start a blog. You can post text, images and video and visitors will be able to interact with your posts (by liking or commenting on them).

Templates

As a new feature, SimpleSite is now offering website templates. Initially only on the English version of the website builder, but there are plans to expand the service to all the other supported languages soon.

It is important to note, though, that the SimpleSite builder gives users the option to customize their theme of choice with up to 35 different color schemes and 25 different fonts. Some of these fonts, however, require an upgrade to the SimpleSite Pro plan.

Overall

SimpleSite is a surprisingly well-rounded website builder, ideal for users with little or no experience creating a website.  For a basic site, their free option is quite generous and more than enough to cover a beginner’s needs. We recommend it to everyone who wants an uncomplicated website-making experience.
